From there, a road follows the Barskoon River into the mountains. The gorge is approximately 90 km from Karakol by road.<\/p><p>The waterfalls are not directly in Barskoon village. Visitors need to continue into the gorge to reach them.<\/p><h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Makes_Barskoon_Gorge_Special\"><\/span>What Makes Barskoon Gorge Special?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2><p>The landscape changes as you travel farther into the valley.<\/p><p>The lower gorge contains open slopes and vegetation, followed by areas of Tien Shan spruce forest. Higher up, the forest becomes thinner and gives way to alpine landscapes and high mountain terrain.<\/p><p>This makes Barskoon particularly interesting because a relatively short excursion from Issyk-Kul can take visitors through several distinct mountain environments.<\/p><h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Barskoon_Waterfalls\"><\/span>Barskoon Waterfalls<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2><p>The most famous attraction in the gorge is its cascade of waterfalls.<\/p><p>Different maps and tourism sources use somewhat different names and arrangements for the individual falls.
